Olive Spectrum - 100% Hemp Twine by the ball

These multi-purpose hemp yarns are 6 strand yarns, ideal for macrame, bead stringing and crocheting. They are a fine twine, similar in diametre to cotton kitchen string.

Perfect for a multitude of projects. Hemp is a strong, durable fibre with natural mould resistant properties. It will not rot as quickly as cotton, and has been processed in Romania – not pulped and boiled in caustic soda as many Chinese hemp yarns are. This gorgeous yarn has been dyed with low-impact colourfast fibre reactive dyes, which cuts down on water usage during the dying process.

There is approx 182m or 200yds per ball. They are 30g (1.05oz) per ball, 17 wpi (approx equivalent to an Australian 3ply gauge or USA CYCA 0).

Hemp Scrub Cloth

Being naturally anti-bacterial and mould & mildew resistant, hemp is the perfect fibre for heavy duty kitchen and bathroom work. Use these hand knitted cloths to scrub pots, bathroom walls, floors, and outdoor furniture.

Simply throw them in the wash with the rest of your laundry and hang out to dry. Instead of throwing “chux” or other similar stinky scrub cloths away, use hemp. These are not sponges, they are scrubbing cloths…….like exfoliators or mild abrasives.

When they finally wear out, put them in the compost. These cloths and the hemp twines will be a continuing product line. In order for the Australian hemp industry to start producing their own twine people like me have to prove that there is sufficient demand for it. The current crops grown in Australia are used for animal husbandry products and as fillers in building materials. Hemp fabric and hemp twine production needs to be encouraged in Australia.

If you would prefer a tighter crocheted cloth please say so in the comments box and I will make the substitute.

Although the picture is of 3 scrub cloths, the price is for 1 only.

Handspun Hemp twine

This hemp yarn is so special, you’ll want to put it on display as well as use it! It is predominantly 1mm thick, ranging in parts up to 2mm thick. The weight is between 90g to 110grams per hand wound ball. Use it to knit or crochet scrub cloths, hats, handbags or placemats. As it is mildew resistant and anti-bacterial it is also perfect for use in the garden, macrame, belt-making and as pet leads and leashes. I have even seen a pattern for hand crocheted hemp sandals. Jewellers and beaders prefer hemp as it is a strong, yet flexible fibre. Hemp softens with each wash, and lightens in colour if left out in the sun. I am guessing by the size of the balls that there is around 300m length per ball……..but as each piece is hand crafted, there will be differences in length. Who is up for some eco art?

Features:

handmade – low environmental impact
no pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation used to grow the hemp
durable, will not rot or go mouldy as quickly as cotton
naturally anti-bacterial
high water retention properties
Benefits:

will last a long time….hence its popularity with beaders
biodegradable
will not expose you to any chemicals – it is chemical free
low environmental impact

Handspun Hemp Rope - Natural

Natural, hand dyed, hemp rope. It has been hand wound into 100g balls and made in Nepal.

Hemp is a bast fibre, with the fibre coming from the stalk, not the softer leaves. This results in a stronger, but coarser rope, with many outdoor applications. It is one of the strongest and longest natural fibres, making a tough, reliable natural fibre rope, perfect for hammocks, pot plant holders, thick belts etc.

Handloomed Hemp fabric

Handloomed hemp fabric is like a work of art. It takes many hours work to produce these magnificent rolls and to support the Nepalese women that weave this eco-fabric, we sell it at near cost.

This fabric is sold by the roll, with each roll being approx 30cm wide and 4 metres long.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

When the hemp is thick enough the stalks are cut, tied in bundles and dried in the sun. A process that usually takes around 2 weeks. When the sap has dried the stalks are split and the fibres are separated into rough strips, ready for a good pounding to make them softer and more pliable.

After handspinning the yarn is ready for weaving. Being a bast fibre (a fibre from the stalk of the plant, not the fruit or flowers) hemp is rather stiff and hardwearing. It can absorb more moisture than cotton before feeling wet, and has natural anti-bacterial qualities.

The texture, natural colour and "starchiness" of handloomed hemp make it perfect for table runners, napkins, placemats, curtains, handbags, beachpants, cushion covers and curtains.

Hemp is most similar in properties to linen (another bast fibre also known as flax). It bleaches naturally in the sun and holds a crease well.

Hemp will shrink by around 5% so please pre-wash if you are using it for anything other than napery. Hemp gets softer with every wash.

Hand Woven Hemp wash cloth with hanging loop - mould resistant

These gorgeous hand made hemp washcloths are naturally mould and mildew resistant. They are 20cm x 20cm (or 8” x 8”) and come in their natural hemp colour with a hanging loop at one corner.

They are smooth enough for everyday use, but tough enough to withstand scrubbing. The cloth is made from handwoven hemp, with a cotton bias and hanging loop. Use all over your body for an invigorating wash, as hemp is naturally anti-bacterial and resistant to mould. Hemp gets softer every time it is used.

These wash cloths also make great kitchen washcloths, and can be thrown in the washing machine with the rest of the washing.

There are two pictured, to give you an idea of the variation in handwoven fabrics but it is $6.50 per cloth, not for a pack of 2.
