Hemp Yarns & Hemp Twines Here you will find hemp yarns, hemp ropes and hemp twine, as well as nettle yarns - also known as alloo.

Olive Spectrum - 100% Hemp Twine by the ball

These multi-purpose hemp yarns are 6 strand yarns, ideal for macrame, bead stringing and crocheting. They are a fine twine, similar in diametre to cotton kitchen string.

Perfect for a multitude of projects. Hemp is a strong, durable fibre with natural mould resistant properties. It will not rot as quickly as cotton, and has been processed in Romania – not pulped and boiled in caustic soda as many Chinese hemp yarns are. This gorgeous yarn has been dyed with low-impact colourfast fibre reactive dyes, which cuts down on water usage during the dying process.

There is approx 182m or 200yds per ball. They are 30g (1.05oz) per ball, 17 wpi (approx equivalent to an Australian 3ply gauge or USA CYCA 0).

Handspun Hemp twine

This hemp yarn is so special, you’ll want to put it on display as well as use it! It is predominantly 1mm thick, ranging in parts up to 2mm thick. The weight is between 90g to 110grams per hand wound ball. Use it to knit or crochet scrub cloths, hats, handbags or placemats. As it is mildew resistant and anti-bacterial it is also perfect for use in the garden, macrame, belt-making and as pet leads and leashes. I have even seen a pattern for hand crocheted hemp sandals. Jewellers and beaders prefer hemp as it is a strong, yet flexible fibre. Hemp softens with each wash, and lightens in colour if left out in the sun. I am guessing by the size of the balls that there is around 300m length per ball……..but as each piece is hand crafted, there will be differences in length. Who is up for some eco art?

Features:

handmade – low environmental impact
no pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation used to grow the hemp
durable, will not rot or go mouldy as quickly as cotton
naturally anti-bacterial
high water retention properties
Benefits:

will last a long time….hence its popularity with beaders
biodegradable
will not expose you to any chemicals – it is chemical free
low environmental impact

Handspun Hemp Rope - Purple

Hand dyed, hemp rope in PURPLE. It has been hand wound into 100g balls and made in Nepal.

Hemp is a bast fibre, with the fibre coming from the stalk, not the softer leaves. This results in a stronger, but coarser rope, with many outdoor applications. It is one of the strongest and longest natural fibres, making a tough, reliable natural fibre rope, perfect for hammocks, pot plant holders, thick belts etc.

Fine Linen Yarn - for tatting, weaving, crochet, macrame

This fine linen is a strong single ply yarn in its natural, unbleached colour. It is so hard to come by good quality linen that is this fine (approx 1mm thick). It is not as coarse as hemp, and is more pliable, becoming softer with every wash.

Perfect for fine quality work where a bit of stiffness is desired such as lace work (knitted, crocheted or tatted), as a warp thread in weaving for tablerunners, placemats or napkins, and as a stabilising and strengthening thread combined witrh recycled silk yarns when making handbags. This gorgeous linen would also make great crochet baskets and friendship bracelets.

There is 95g to a skein. I have not measured the metres in a skein yet, but if you would like to know, please email and I’ll get cracking!
